TAKUYA, MAKE UP IN THE SKINTakuya, is THE makeup artist for the Menard brand. Much more than an artist, he’s impassioned and sensitive. He has told us about his life and imparted some exclusive beauty secrets. Being of Japanese origin, Takuya quickly waded into «the beauty bath». When a child, his parents ran a perfume shop. Oils, creams and makeup quickly became his best friends, “it was something natural for me”. Becoming a professional makeup artist was an obvious path, something spontaneous and not thought out. Because Takuya works by feeling, he senses things and then makes us feel it. His goal is to transmit. After having taken makeup courses in Tokyo, he began to work for a Japanese brand and even create some product lines. In 1990, France was lucky enough to welcome him on it’s soil; he then settled in Paris. Full of spirit and fervour, he made his way and then left the capital to go south: “I needed some sun, I ,who came from the country of the rising sun”. It surely was his best idea, since it was there that he met the director of Menard, the Japanese band which has been so successful in France. In 2003, he started developing a project by creating a team of makeup artists. His objective? To operate backstage at fashion shows and find those who would make Menard a star. Today Takuya makes-up the most beautiful women in the world and is seen on catwalk after catwalk. How does a makeup artist organise himself? Three weeks before a show, Takuya speaks with the couturiers in order to understand their worlds, the kind of women they are looking for and the kind of makeup which inspires them. They make several tests, then make accessories (false eyelashes, skin jewellery, etc) which inspire him and which is essentials to the perfection of his work. One week before, Takuya tries the makeup in front of the couturier. If the two men are on the same wave length, he then goes to organization the team, that means about ten makeup artists. In general, Takuya likes to work with other Japanese. Sectarian? No. He just feels better with them and more efficient: “the Japanese have a deep artistic talent, something a little extra”. When someone asks him what his makeup represents, he simply answers as a matter of course that “makeup is a kind of accessory, which highlights the clothes”. This reserved and humble man, likes discretion and sobriety. “What’s important in makeup, is what it brings out of the woman, not that, which is considered perfect and therefore not superficial”. For Takuya, makeup must be personal and intense. It is an “anti- disguise”. He explains that one puts makeup on for oneself and not for other people “makeup should bring out that which is most beautiful in a woman, from the inside”. What’s important, is the quality of the skin before appearing in public and before the makeup. Concerning makeup, if the creation of a complexion is successful that means that more than 70% of the makeup is successful: “It’s the foundation which does everything”. And the Trends for 2009? Menard is launching even flashier products, the colors are becoming more fluorescent. There is a new product in the range, an extraordinary lipstick named «Embellir» from Menard. This hyper-treated lipstick, with the same active ingredients in their care product range, is even more sublime. Menard has set up a new way of taking care of skin. With a personalised diagnosis, Menard analyzes the skin by extracting a bit of the epidermis and sending it on to Japan. After two weeks, the client receives a custom made cream just for her, according to her skin type and studies carried out. Full of dreams and projects in mind, Takuya is working on the idea of creating a line of makeup parallel to his consulting activity (the name of his company: Why Not). His strong points? His passion for two cultures : his Japanese origins and his French know how.
