Carolina Herrera, An Icon of eleganceCarolina Herrera was born María Carolina Josefina Pacanins y Niño, in Caracas, Venezuela, in the heart of a family of landowners and statesmen (1939). As a little girl, she was mostly interested in horses, dogs and sports and started to show a strong inclination towards everything relating to the world of fashion. She was just 13 years old when her grandmother took her to Paris to see Cristobal Balenciaga´s haute couture show. That was the point that marked the start of Carolina Herrera´s future professional career. Carolina Herrera has always demonstrated a strong and impulsive personality. She married at a very young age and had two daughters, Mercedes and Ana Luisa. That marriage lasted 7 years. A few years later, she married again, to Reinaldo Herrera, a personal friend of Carolina and her family since her youth. After the wedding, the couple set up residence in Caracas and had 2 daughters: Carolina and Patricia. Having always been very close to her husband and daughters, after a time during which her family was her main interest in life, Carolina decided to start designing her own creations. In the 80’s, Carolina Herrera was considered one of the ten best dressed women in the world and lived a jetsetter’s life between Venezuela and New York. She was a muse to modern artists such as pop art artist Andy Wahrol who portrayed her in his famous style in 1983. Encouraged by her friend Diana Vreeland, fashion editor at Haarper´s Bazaar and Vogue, and publicist Count Crespi, Carolina presented her first collection in New York in 1980. It was a great success. Back in the times of the Annie Hall look (women wearing men´s clothes on top of one another), Carolina Herrera showed luxury and extravagance with very sexy and glamorous creations. In 1981, she moved to New York with her husband and four daughters and created Carolina Herrera limited, the company from which she launched her career as a designer at an international level. Clothing, bridal collection, fragrances and accessories are Carolina Herrera´s creations. After more than 20 years, her company continues to grow and innovate worldwide, dressing the most elegant women around the world. An Icon of elegance To be the most prestigious American brand: this is the maxim around which the Carolina Herrera world revolves. There are a few important values that we need to know in order to understand the world of Carolina Herrera: values that define her identity and temperament to create her unique personality. PERSONALITY Elegance, sophistication, style, beauty and emotion are some of the most important characteristic traits of the brand´s personality and are the signature of a mother and a daughter: Carolina Herrera, Carolina Herrera Junior. Two generations, two personalities, two different perspectives: sometimes they agree, sometimes they don’t and this is what lends the brand the plurality and richness that endow its unique stamp of authenticity. This diversity is what is also shared by the Carolina Herrera customers. Each woman, each man, is a unique being, different from anyone else with a defined individuality. Their identification with a fragrance is based on enhancing their own personality, on the freedom it confers upon them, on the certainty that it goes with their character.
ELEGANCE, GLAMOUR AND CHICThe Carolina Herrera woman carefully chooses every garment as if it were a magic ritual. It is not so much about wearing something from a particular designer but rather something that really suits her, and even enhances her personality and class. She counts on details: shoes, a scarf, earrings, or stockings that allow her imagination to take wings and express the way she is. When she walks into a room, it’s hard for Mrs. Herrera not to become the focus of everyone’s gaze. Her style is neither breakaway, nor radical. She might include one eye-catching complement that helps to enhance her natural elegance. She has class, she possesses that undefinable charm, that savoir- faire that is hard to resist. Her daughter has inherited this enviable quality from her mother and demonstrates a special talent for combining formal clothes with Carolina Herrera. Farouk CHEKOUFI
