Jesper Borjesson the golden boy at CERRUTIJesper Borjesson will celebrate his 35th birthday this year. The Swedish designer began his career as a shoemaker in Milan, a path that he followed for six years in his native Sweden with the role of Senior Shoe Designer at Vagabond International. Awarded a Giorgio Armani scholarship, Jesper Borjesson expanded his horizons at the prestigious Saint Martin’s School in London, graduating in 2006. He launched his own label, Balaclava, in 2005, presenting a futuristic look clothed in avantgarde fabrics. His line of hand-painted t-shirts enjoyed enormous success, particularly in London, Tokyo and Berlin. With Cerruti since February 2007, Jesper Borjesson focused on the Menswear line. Recently promoted to Creative Director of Menswear, the designer presented his first Fall- Winter 2010-2011 collection and revealed the new Cerruti look. Based on a revised conception of elegance, this new silhouette revives the concept of relaxed chic introduced by Nino Cerruti. Driven by Jesper Borjesson, the label has a wider range of signature models to co-ordinate the various universes: jackets with contrasting double collars, double fold loose-cut trousers, cardigan-jackets, and crossover jackets. Knitwear and shirts add just the right touch of colour (anis, pink, electric blue, aubergine). Florent Perrichon, President of Cerruti, welcomes this new look: “This collection revives with amazing pertinence and accuracy the casual chic which made this label's name.” 3 questions to Jesper BorjessonBefore joining the house, what did the name Cerruti represent for you? Refined tailoring and elegant masculinity. How do you work? I do a lot of research: I read, I browse second-hand shops and stalls, I love vintage. Travelling and discovering different cultures are also sources of inspiration. Last summer I was in Berlin, and that trip has influenced this collection. Working initially with the house tailors is crucial. Following on from that, I want to see the team dedicating its energy and vitality to all stages of the creative process. What can you tell us about this first collection? Obviously it's a great honour, and a lot of pressure! For this collection we really wanted to revive a look where elegance does not rely solely on traditional tailoring. The proportions have been rethought, attention to pertinent yet refined details that add a personal touch to each model, vintage Cerruti fabrics which have been re-issued for the occasion. The wealth of choice means that all the models co-ordinate. That is the essence of Cerruti style.
