HOTEL PRINCIPE DI SAVOIAUN BIJOUThe Hotel Principe di Savoia, part of the Dorchester Collection, has been a classy contradiction in terms from the very beginning, symbolizing gracious living for a business clientele, offering the traditional hospitality of a grand resort in an unapologetically urban setting, hosting industrialists, Counts and cultural icons with equal aplomb. In 1927, the year the Principe opened its doors as the Principe di Savoia, Milan had already begun building its reputation as Italy’s business centre. So the hotel’s location in what was then a nondescript plaza called Piazza Fiume, far north from what was considered the heart of Milan, was not as illogical as it first appeared. Although staunch traditionalists among the Milanese believed that everything that really mattered in the city had to be located between Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Scala, but the fact that the plaza -- then as now -- overlooked the 19th-century style façade of the city’s central railway station, Stazione Centrale, made it logistically convenient for the burgeoning business tycoons of the era. The Principe di Savoia was developed by a limited company called “S.A. Acquisto ed Esercizio Alberghi Savoia”. The company entrusted the design of their project to Cesare Tenca, a prominent Milanese architect. The Principe di Savoia, part of the Dorchester Collection, just opened its new restaurant “Acanto” which offers a fresh and very Milanese alternative to diners, thanks to its Executive Chef Fabrizio Cadei. The menu includes classic Italian cuisine, whose flavors are exalted by the Chef’s talent combining a light of touch with a newly measured cooking technique; presenting dishes of high aesthetic value. The primary inspiration for the Acanto* menu was derived from the regional culinary tradition of Lombardy, from which the Chef has mixed flavors from around the Mediterranean and beyond to create delicate dishes infused with a world of tastes. Nothing but the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients are used throughout –adding to the dining experience, the famous designer Paul Valet, of international renown for his kitchen displays created around the world for Alain Ducasse, has set up for the first time in Italy a state of the art kitchen display with the latest high tech equipment and glass paneling; enabling guests to watch the chefs at work in the kitchen from their tables. Opening in perfect time for summer dining, Acanto promises to be an absolute innovation: a new veranda and restaurant are to be entirely integrated, offering both a stylish restaurant and a beautiful summer courtyard in which to enjoy a cocktail. Railings separating the raised floor from the main dining area have been made from curved glass which is illuminated at night by under-floor lighting adding further detailed sophistication after dark. The veranda’s architecture, conceived by Celeste Dell’Anna, enhances the view of the Italian landscaped garden that boasts an 18th century fountain; a real pleasure for the eyes accompanying the pleasure on the palate. During the day the sunlight shines through an octagonal-shaped glass dome, allowing diners to feel immersed in nature – then in the evening, the atmosphere is magically transformed as the garden is illuminated. CLUB 10 FITNESS & BEAUTY CENTERInaugurated in April 1996, the Club 10 Fitness & Beauty Center today covers an area of 1,000 square meters and offers its guests a fully equipped and relaxing oasis. A bright and elegant beauty area was added less than five years ago (in February 2001) in which the prestigious Kanebo product line and the therapeutic Hot Stone Massage were introduced. The breathtaking Club 10 Fitness & Beauty Center sits on the top floor of the Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan , part of the Dorchester Collection. It solidified its state-of-the-art ranking at the beginning of 2004, when it acquired the latest in exercise equipment and added new parquet flooring. The new equipment is the latest generation machines from Technogym.
