The Sonata of the Stars, AllegroA tribute to Ciurlionis Irakli Nasidzé 2010-2011 Fall-winter Couture Collection Iraklis’s new Couture Collection takes some magical inspiration from the work of painter and composer Mikolajus Konstantinas Ciurlionis (1875-1911). The designer discovered this Lithuanian artist’s pictorial work while studying at the School of Fine Arts in Tbilissi, and admired it once again at a recent exhibition in Vilnius. Irakli was especially moved by one picture: The Sonata of the Stars, Allegro (1908). His emotion now fills his thread’s palette with amber, old gold, blue-grey, and gives a particular rhythm to the lines and drapes he uses to wrap his models. More than ever, Irakli pays some great attention to the work of materials. He conceives his own pieces, in merinos, mohair, silk, lurex… that are made in needlework, crochet-work and macramé, thus mastering the process of creation from the beginning of the textile chain until the finishing touches of every piece. Manufacturing the material is then constrained by its texture, its shape and its color. They are considered by the artist for every garment. The pieces (dresses, skirts, jackets and coats) are decorated with openwork stitches or with geometrical drawings sculptured by needle. The stitch work consists of a mix of pearls and lace frill, or vibrates of decreasing stripes.
